AWS Weekly Roundup: Kiro waitlist, EBS Volume Clones, EC2 Capacity Manager and more (October 20, 2025) | Amazon Web Services

I was inspired by all the activities that tech communities around the world organized and participated in throughout the year. Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are starting to dream about the upcoming summer holidays and wrapping up some of the activities we started this year. The tech community in South Africa is participating in the Amazon Q Developer coding challenges that my colleagues and I are hosting this month as a fun way to wrap up the year’s activities. The first was held last Friday in Johannesburg, followed by Durban and Cape Town.

Last week’s launch
Here are the starts from last week that caught my eye:

  • Kiro is now available to every developer — Since its launch more than 90 days ago, more than 100,000 developers have joined the waiting list to try Kiro. The waiting list is gone, so sign up if you want to try this spec-driven approach to coding with AI.
  • Amazon EC2 Capacity Manager — If you’re using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) at scale, running hundreds of instance types across multiple Availability Zones and accounts, using On-Demand Instances, Instant Instances, and Capacity Reservations, you’ll be happy to know that EC2 Capacity Manager is now available to provide you with a centralized solution for monitoring, analytics, and management a single interface for use across all AWS account usage areas.
  • Amazon EBS volume clones — Sometimes you need production data to test a fix in a non-production environment before deploying it to production. Typically, you would take an EBS snapshot of that data and then create a new volume from that snapshot, dealing with the operational overhead of that process in the meantime. Learn more about the availability of Amazon EBS volume clones, a new option for creating instant copies of EBS volumes within the same Availability Zone.
